Hateruma

by celeste

Hateruma is the most southern inhabited island of Japan. Approximately 600 people live on this flat island with mainly cattle raising farms, similar to Kuroshima. Like most of the Yaeyama islands, pineapples and sugarcane are cultivated on Hateruma island. There are several minshuku on the island and local shops.

HOW TO GO TO HATERUMA?

Hateruma island is accessible within 60-70 minutes by ferry from Ishigaki island. Due to weather circumstances cancellation happens regularly. On a calm day this would be no problem.
