#7days7cafes
Papiru
Last week, we had a great time discovering new spots to visit on Ishigaki Island. For us, high-quality food, drinks, service, and atmosphere are essential, and we love finding unique places. On the last day of our “7 days, 7 cafes” adventure, we visited Papiru Cake Shop & Cafe. This charming patisserie is located in Shiraho, a historic area of Ishigaki. Although they’ve relocated and their sign is visible from the road, it’s easy to miss, so keep an eye out!
Papiru is my personal recommendation for a party celebration cake.
Local
The ingredients here are primarily locally sourced: milk from Ishigaki, eggs from Shiraho, brown sugar from Hateruma, and an abundance of (local) fruits. Cream from Hokkaido.
The cakes are delicious with only natural flavours. All the products have a genuine quality, it really feels it is made with love and care.
The menu offers coffee, hot and iced tea, along with a variety of herbal teas from Shiraho. The main seating area is on tatami mats, offering a relaxing experience. It’s great for families with kids, as there is a small toy corner. Papiru also offers handmade cookies and unique small gifts.
Shiraho Ishigaki
Shiraho is a charming area just outside Ishigaki City and a must-visit during your stay on Ishigaki Island. Take a stroll or bike around the neighborhood to soak in the local atmosphere. You might even visit the Shiraho Sunday Market at the former WWF facility. Another great option is to catch the sunrise at Shiraho Beach and enjoy your morning tea at Papiru afterward. Or drive our free tour around the island and make a stop over at Papiru!
Another lovely place to try is Pizza Da Tutti, which is moved into a traditional Okinawa house in the area in 2024.
