Get to know Ishigaki City
Walk around the centre, browse the market area and small shops, and take time over a local meal. This is a useful day to find your bearings and see the practical side of island life.
The city is a good beginning. Leave time to see the wider island too.
Day 02
Head beyond the city
Choose Kabira and the west coast, or make the north your focus. Mountains, beaches and country roads reveal a different side of Ishigaki. Keep the number of stops modest and leave room for lunch and a pause.
A car gives you flexibility. Let the weather help you choose which day to explore farther afield.
Day 03
Explore more, or take a ferry
Stay on Ishigaki for another area, an activity or a slower day. If you want to visit a nearby island, Taketomi is one possibility. There is no need to add another island simply to complete an itinerary.
For a ferry trip, check current operations and your return sailing on the day.
Keep the order flexible.
Count arrival and departure time separately. Choose the countryside or ferry day around current conditions, and give yourself permission to stay longer in a place you like. Severe weather may mean staying at your accommodation rather than substituting another outing.
